Why This Site Exists
Mount Pleasant research is usually a Charleston County process, with a separate Town layer. The County Property Record Cards distinguish a property address from an owner's mailing address, while the Charleston County Register of Deeds supplies the recorded-document trail. Town permits, agendas, and other non-exempt materials follow their own channels. For older addresses, the Charleston County Public Library's South Carolina Room and Charleston Archive are often more useful than a current online index.
We assembled the relevant search routes, office contacts, coverage limits, and access rules in one place. When a record is not online, South Carolina's Freedom of Information Act, S.C. Code Ann. §§ 30-4-10 through 30-4-165, is the governing public-records framework. Section 30-4-30 addresses inspection, copying, and agency timing, while § 30-4-40 identifies exemptions.
What This Reference Includes
The directory pages are organized by the kind of starting information a reader has and point to the actual custodian or collection.
- Search paths: By Street for address-based records, City Directories for historical volumes, and Resident Lookup for a focused name search
- Custodians and collections: County property and deed resources, court offices, state vital-records information, and library local-history holdings
- Practical distinctions: how a situs address, mailing address, legal description, index, and document image serve different purposes
- Access limits: public-record request routes, confidentiality boundaries, and the need to verify details with the office that holds the record
What This Site Cannot Do
This is a privately operated reference site, not a Mount Pleasant office, Charleston County department, South Carolina agency, court, or library. Its limits are important:
- We cannot verify a person's present residence in Mount Pleasant
- We cannot obtain, certify, amend, or correct a government record for you
- We cannot add a person to, or remove a person from, a government roll, database, or library collection
- We do not provide legal advice on a record, dispute, or request
- We cannot guarantee that a portal, coverage date, fee, link, or office procedure has not changed
Only the record custodian can confirm, certify, or correct its records. This private site is not a consumer reporting agency, and its material cannot be used for FCRA-regulated decisions.
